The future of Business in the Victorian South East Region

About

The South East

The South East region currently produces $90 billion in gross regional product with over 158,000 businesses generating 628,000 local jobs.

The region extends to Mornington Peninsula, Frankston, Dandenong, Knox, Kingston, Cardinia and Casey. Our population of 1.3million is rising, and we are one of the fastest growing regional corridors in Victoria.

The South East is also Victoria’s No. 1 tourist destination, with more visitors heading to the gorgeous Mornington Peninsula than anywhere else. “Dandenong hosts almost 1,400 manufacturing businesses and more than 21,000 workers. They transform a range of advanced materials into new products, creating high value components for the next generation of space, aerospace, defence, mobility and medical technologies” (State Government Media Release 17/8/22).

The South Eastern Port of Hastings trading history has been active since the 1800s with the establishment of the Port of Hastings in the 1960s and is poised for significant growth with a naturally deep port. The Victorian Government released the Offshore Wind Statement in March 2023, confirming the Port of Hastings as the most suitable port to support offshore wind construction.’There is no other port in Australia that is currently suitable to support offshore wind construction’.
